Beets ravioli

Walked in a new neighborhood restaurant and had lamb tongue, pork belly, monk fish and beets ravioli.
The ravioli was fantastic.
I don't hate beets, nice color and good for your health, but it's not my favorite.
The ravioli had a nice citrus flavor which soften the beets's sweetness and smell.
I was so inspired and tried to make it at home before I forget the details.
I used orange and beets puree with goat cheese as a stuffing.
Lemon dressing for top and some grapes and good balsamic vinegar as a sauce.

"calm down and breath."

Some chemical is missing.
Some bowls were broken at shelf.
I dropped my big bowls on the floor and broke them.
Many accidents in a few weeks.
When my mind is not sound the clay tells me "calm down and breath."

Boiled dumplings

I always get hungry when I am wedging clay at the studio. So I bring some snack with me. Dumplings are perfect for snack. I make batch of them and freeze them. Through them into boiling water just before I leave house. Kneeding dumpling dough is much easier than wedging clay.

Adriana's kitchen project

My good friend, Adriana's kitchen project has been completed and I was invited to the client's house for brunch.
Her tiles are so beautiful in the new and bright kitchen in a charming brown stone house in park slope.
Light background colour is effective to emphasize the green pattern.

Walking around the neighborhood stopped by my favorite select shop to see 3 cats there and browsed antique shops' show windows on the way home in such a nice and sunny day.

Slip ware by Takehiro Ito

I fell in love with this "Mashiko yaki" slip ware.
This is hand made by Takehiro Ito.
There are several slip pattern like this "ribbon" and "fence" and more.
Square shape is so nice to use for anything.
Mashiko yaki is famous for traditional craft ware which has strong and rustic style.
His new Mashiko yaki still has strong feeling, but fits our modern lifestyle.

My dad's strawberry short cake

My dad loves strawberry short cake.
My mom has been baking this cake for my dad's birthday every year.
But my dad wants to eat his favorite anytime he wants, so he decided to learn how to make it by himself.
In his "dad's notebook", between stock market information, there is the cake recipe now.
Good job, dad!

Braised lamb shank

Shiraz is a very good wine for this kind of dish.
It has a strong fruity flavor and is very reasonable.
Braise the lamb until the meat falls off the bone.

White Russian

I realized that I don't drink milk everyday. Afraid of having osteoporosis??
Solution; drink milk cocktails! The White Russian-the drink the Dude is always drinking in The Big Lebowski.
Vodka, coffee liqueur and milk.

Anna Siok "Magical Habitat"

All pottery people knows Anna Siok. She is 83 years old and still teaching.

I got so shocked when I saw her work. Her pieces are natural and innocent like a child, full of her rich personality. All her animals made me smile.

I was very happy and shocked from seeing this beautiful work and, on the subway ride home after the show, I thought about my ignorance about myself and my creations and my rigidity, immaturity and confusion.

Traditional Apple pie

I enjoyed Tyler Florence's program about apple tart tatin and apple pie. I still have some favorite shows on the Foodnetwork, -his and Jamie's.
The first pie tasted OK, but I didn't really like it.
I adjusted temperature and portion of the filling.
Since this recipe has much less shortening than the so called "1-2-3 dough", this must be a little lighter.
It is interesting to know that using 2 different kinds of apples improves flavor.

I don't need ice cream or whipped cream on the side, but want a huge slice!

New glaze "oribe"

Everybody gets excited when a new studio glaze launches.
I am one of them!

*"oribe" is green copper glaze and the name comes from Japanese tea master Oribe Furuta.

Alberta Canada

This beautiful trip made my head clear and I was so inspired by creative people there.

Classic Apple strudel

After watching making strudel video at Andre's Bakery, I could not help baking strudel. Well, I used phyllo though...
I tried a new recipe from my favorite book "Food of Eastern Europe". It was for 8-10 portions.
But it was for very generous cuts. It turned out to be 14 portions.
Maybe 28 portions for small eaters.

My friends brought slices home for breakfast and I still asked for help from other friends.
